Two Cities Television worked with SMMS during the setup and transmission of BLUE LIGHTS for BBC One and iPlayer to ensure that our digital ambitions were achieved, across all of our social media platforms, during the run of a mainstream police procedural TV series. Working with Sarah and David at SMMS was a joy and a great learning curve – always forcing us to rethink our editorial approach in terms of digital demands, and always encouraging us and the audience, to engage. Series One was a great success, launching a new original drama to five-star rave reviews and an average audience of over 6.5 million across all six episodes, with a consolidated peak of 7.6 million viewers, split across linear and digital. The series also garnered a strong young audience performance with 13% of the viewership being 16-34-year-olds – we believe this is down to the stellar work carried out by SMMS, and also Milk Publicity. We are now working with SMMS again on Series 2 and look forward to actively pushing boundaries, together, in the future.
In today’s digital age, social media has become a crucial platform for promoting and marketing TV shows. With the rise of social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, television networks are increasingly turning to social media to engage with their audience and generate buzz around their shows.
However, to truly measure the success of a social media campaign for a TV show, it’s important to focus on the results. The results of a social media campaign can provide valuable insights into audience engagement, brand awareness, and overall success. In this context, we monitor our results with metrics such as likes, shares, comments, followers, and engagement rates, which can help to measure the impact and effectiveness of a social media campaign.
Examples of our success include making Endeavour and Unforgotten trend on Twitter, plus client testimonials can be viewed below;
Thanks very much for all your hard work on Series 5 [of Unforgotten]. Obviously, it was a bit different with all the eps up on ITVX but it still felt like there was a lot of engagement and traction. The final Ep appeared to be trending which was a great result! Thanks again.
Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the course on Thursday with Jo. Social media has never been something that particularly appealed to me, but I must say Jo made it very interesting, and fun too!
Her style is so easy and informative and friendly. I came away with a lot from that course. Really hope we can use her again.
I just wanted to pass on how much I enjoyed the course. In all the years that social media has been a part of our lives, this is the first time I’ve had some proper training on how we can best harness it for our audiences. Jo was knowledgeable, totally approachable and very engaging. It was so valuable to be able to talk things through with someone who’s right up to speed with what’s going on in the social media landscape. It certainly didn’t feel like an 8 hour course – the time flew by!
We asked Joanna to provide us with training for our current students who are working to support the transition of new students into MMU. She pitched the session perfectly to suit the mixed audience of staff and students and we have booked Joanna again. I have absolutely no hesitation is recommending her. She is a rising star and definitely one to watch for the future.
We commissioned Social Media Makes Sense to deliver a series of 6 two day ‘Digitally Savvy’ practical workshops to help 95 of our (mainly) female business clients to build functioning business Facebook and Twitter pages. We received excellent feedback about the training, and had a very high retention rate over the two days. Additionally, SMMS delivered 10 ‘How To’ videos for the launch of our new digital TV website, again producing useful instructions for using Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn. We are very happy with both the delivery and the positive results achieved by the attendees.
Jo Booth has worked for me as a Trainer, Content Designer and Consultant in Social Media Training at the BBC since 2016. She has a proven track record of delivering training that is relevant, inspiring and practical – addressing topics related to building audiences with social media, making shareable content, content production with mobile devices and everything related to making engaging visual content. She is an articulate and charismatic presenter and consistently gets excellent feedback from BBC delegates and managers. She has also demonstrated herself to be a supportive team player, always thinking about what’s best for our overall brand, and generously sharing her knowledge with colleagues.
…the impact social media made to the campaign for each show is unquestionable. The programmes that ran active social media campaigns had a far higher number of votes and it was noted that following tweets and Facebook updates from show accounts, like Poldark’s, there was a spike in visitors to our website voting page.
I have worked with SMMS across several TV projects and our work has dovetailed into a comprehensive campaign. The team are brim full of cracking ideas and very easy to work with. I would have no hesitation in recommending them and often do!
I had a one to one training course with Jo from SMMS which was amazing and super helpful. She helped us kick start all our social media platforms and gave us some brilliant ideas to make social media fun and exciting. It has been an absolute pleasure working with Jo and Optomen Television will 100% be using them again in the near future. I can’t speak highly enough of SMMS, they have been great to work with and I would totally recommend Jo for any of your social media training needs. Thank you for everything.
The SMMS team did a brilliant job running our social media campaign for The Last Post. Their posts were engaging, humorous when needed and always informative, and the team were able to create great content very quickly. They had an excellent range of posts, and we loved the competitions and cast Q&As. All in all, it was a fantastic experience working with them
First time we’ve used a social media agency and cannot recommend the SMMS team enough. Creative, enthusiastic, communicative and did an amazing job creating content and building a community. Worth every penny…and then some!
The SMMS team are a dream to work with. They know their platforms inside out and create engaging and original content. I’d highly recommend them to anyone
World Productions brought on SMMS to take over the official Line of Duty social accounts for Series 5 of the hit series. We have been very impressed with the growth of the accounts since SMMS came on board and would highly recommend them.
SMMS are a pleasure to work with. They are creative, fun, quick to respond, and know how to get the most out of being on set. They work closely with our cast and crew to produce quality social media content, interactive Q&As, and they’re filled with ideas born of their expert knowledge. They have given ‘digital-life’ to our shows and we’re looking forward to continuing to work with them in the future.
SMMS has really boosted our audience engagement. They have been promoting Poldark from the get go with fun & engaging content. They gathered behind the scenes material, developed a great relationship with our talent, worked closely with our production teams and have helped us ‘trend’ week-after-week. I couldn’t be happier
Thank you SMMS for a brilliant campaign. I’m delighted with the effects and reach of our Facebook campaign. I’m absolutely convinced your insightful ideas and strategic objectives strengthened and consolidated our audience figures…all very helpful when it comes to re-commissioning. Thank you.
